Gewurztraminer DOC, Alto Adige, Colterenzio
The Alto Adige region of Northern Italy (between Austria and Switzerland) is one of the oldest wine growing regions in Europe. Formerly part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, this region benefits from both the mountains of the Alps and wonderful days of Mediterranean sun. Due to it’s varied heritage, the back label is written in both French and German (as well as English, lucky for us).
The 2016 Colterenzio Shreckbichl Gewurztraminer begins with a very enticing aroma of tropical fruit, cloves and cinnamon. The wine tastes thick, luscious and complex. It’s somewhat sweet but carries it remarkably well thanks to plenty of acidity. Citrus and tropical fruit, warm spice and minerality. dry finish, with lingering spice and tart fruit. Highly recommended
